Gua Sha

Gua Sha involves repeated stroking or scraping with a smooth-edged instrument over an area of the body to create therapeutic marks on the skin intentionally.

These marks, known as Sha, form due to increased microcirculation, tissue response, and localised beneficial inflammation. They naturally fade and resolve within 2–7 days.

Gua Sha affects the underlying fascia and connective tissue. The gentle scraping motions can help release tension and adhesions within the fascia, leading to better movement & mobility. Gua Sha significantly increases circulation in the local area delivering fresh oxygen, nutrients, and immune cells to the tissues, promoting overall health and healthy function.

Gua sha also stimulates nerve endings in the skin, triggering neurological responses that include the release of pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory substances. It is used wherever there is tightness or pain to relax muscles, unblock stagnation and release ‘toxins’ from meridian pathways.
