BRISBANE ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC

Acupuncture is an ancient, energetic healing modality that stimulates the body's innate self-regulating mechanisms. It does this by stimulating specific points in the body with delicate, sterile needles, heat, or pressure, which encourages the body to heal itself.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine when practised by a registered and degree-qualified practitioner and Acupuncturist. Research into acupuncture as a medical treatment has grown significantly in the past twenty years, providing high-quality evidence for various conditions.

At Vessel, we take a very gentle approach to needling. We are trained in Japanese needling techniques (as well as Traditional and classical Chinese Medicine techniques). We use the finest-quality needles, which allow for painless and effective treatments. For those who do not feel comfortable receiving Acupuncture, we have many needle-free techniques, including moxa, cupping, gua sha, tui na (Chinese remedial massage), acupressure, and ‘non-insertive’ Japanese Acupuncture, in our toolkit.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

From a Western perspective, Acupuncture promotes vasodilation (increases blood flow), stimulates the release of neurotransmitters and hormones, and activates the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest and digest state), resulting in deep relaxation.

By inserting needles, acupuncture stimulates biochemical pathways, sensory nerves, and signalling routes to produce clinical effects for symptom relief.

Acupuncture also invokes a pain-relieving (analgesic) effect by activating the body’s innate pain-relieving mechanisms, which involve anti-inflammatory substances, immune system enhancers and hormones. Acupuncture engages directly with the central nervous system to encourage a cascade of responses in the body to achieve and maintain balanced health.

Most people find Acupuncture profoundly relaxing, and while it should not hurt, you might experience sensations like aching, temperature changes, pulsing, movement, numbness, heaviness, or fullness—these are typical signs that your system is engaging with treatment.

Vessel Acupuncture uses single-use sterile needles in treatment. Because Acupuncture has a physiological effect, the dose, including the timing and frequency of treatment, will be considered when prescribing a treatment plan.

WHAT CAN ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?

Acupuncture can be used to treat a range of health conditions and is considered a safe, non-invasive option of treatment when practised by registered Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners. Acupuncture is supported by moderate to strong evidence of effectiveness in the treatment of 46 conditions. For further information, please see the link below:
