Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient energetic healing modality that stimulates the body's innate self-regulating mechanisms. It does this by using fine, sterile needles, heat or pressure to stimulate certain points in the body.

We take a very gentle approach to needling at Vessel, as we are trained in Japanese needling techniques (as well as traditional Chinese medicine techniques). We use the finest quality needles that allow for painless and effective treatments. For those who do not feel comfortable receiving acupuncture, we have many needle-free techniques including moxa, cupping, gua sha, tui na (Chinese remedial massage), acupressure and ‘non-insertive’ Japanese acupuncture in our toolkit.

From a Western perspective, Acupuncture has been shown to promote vasodilation (increase blood flow), stimulate the release of neurotransmitters and hormones, and stimulate the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest and digest state), resulting in deep relaxation.

Acupuncture has also been shown to invoke a pain-relieving (analgesic) effect by activating the body’s innate pain-relieving mechanisms, which involve anti-inflammatory substances, immune system enhancers and hormones. Acupuncture engages directly with the central nervous system to encourage a cascade of responses in the body to achieve and maintain balanced health.

Most people find acupuncture deeply relaxing and whilst it should not hurt, you might experience sensations like aching, temperature changes, pulsing, movement, numbness, heaviness or fullness - these are typical signs that your system is engaging with treatment.
